OLI-NATURA Colour-Oil

The product

The OLI-NATURA Colour-Oils are based on our OLI-NATURA Worktop-Oil, made of linseed- and tung oil, combined with colour pigments. They are suitable for the initial and subsequent treatment of wooden furniture and protect & colourize with only one oil application. The different colour shades are ideal for yet untreated and freshly sanded furniture and stairs made of wood, veneer or MDF. The fast-curing colour oils are abrasion resilient and create a matte, water repellent & durable finish.

The OLI-NATURA Colour-Oils have a high yield and colour intensity. The resulting appearance will also depend on the basic shade of the wood and on the sanding. The coarser the sanding, the more intense the colouration. In general, the surface should not be sanded too finely. Only then can the colour pigments become deeply embedded in the surface.

The pigmented "OLI-NATURA Colour-Oil" is available in five variants, all of which can be mixed with each other. To achieve a less intensive colour result, the Colour-Oil can be blended with the OLI-NATURA Worktop-Oil.

To achieve maximum wood saturation with one oil application, we recommend "mechanically" massaging the oil into the wood, preferably by hand with a beige pad. On large surface areas an eccentric sander with a beige pad would be preferable. The excess oil must be removed and polished out. This method of oiling is very efficient for flat surfaces such as tabletops & countertops because it saturates the wood to its depth, which increases its resistance.

Since the coloured oil can always be refreshed by re-oiling, such surfaces are one of the most resistant and easy to repair.

The surface must be dry, free of grease, thoroughly cleaned and free of sanding dust. Apply material at room temperature.

OIL WITH SPATULA/WIPER

Shake/stir container thoroughly before use.

Spread & wipe paint oil with a stainless spatula or rubber squeegee until surface is evenly coated. Add oil if areas are too dry.

Within 30 minutes, massage in the colour oil with a beige pad by hand or orbital sander.

Polish thoroughly with a cotton or oil absorbent cloth or with a white polishing pad.

If necessary, polish again the following day with a cotton or oil absorbent cloth and a small amount of oil (5-10 ml/m²).

OILING WITH PAD

Shake/stir container thoroughly before use.

Massage in the colour oil with a beige pad by hand or orbital sander until surface is evenly coated. Add oil if areas are too dry.

Due to the high share of pigments, be sure to remove any access oil within 30 minutes with a cotton cloth or oil absorbent cloth and wipe & buff out several times. The surface should appear dry to the touch.

If necessary, polish again the following day with a white polishing pad, cotton or oil absorbent cloth and a little oil (5-10 ml/m²).

TIP

Optionally, the oil can be processed with OLI-NATURA HS Hardener in a ratio of 5:1. After mixing, the pot life of the Colour-Oil is 1-2 hours.

For smaller surfaces or components that are unfavourable in terms of geometry, it can also be applied directly with a soaked cotton cloth and wiped afterwards.

CONSUMPTION

1 application, depending on the sanding & absorbency of the wood approx. 20-40 ml/m² per application (approx. 25-50 m²/l).

DRYING

Depending on humidity & temperature, the surface is dust-dry after 1-2 hours, fully cured & abrasion-resistant after 5-7 days. During this time, protect from water and treat gently.

SHELF LIFE

Unopened at least 24 months.

Quality

OLI-NATURA Colour-Oils, rich in solids, are based on modified, unsaturated plant oils such as linseed oil and tung oil as well as lightfast earth/mineral pigments. When exposed to oxygen, the oil molecules cross-link and harden viscoelastic inside the wood.

The colour oils contain neither biocidal agents nor preservatives and are manufactured without compounds containing cobalt or oximes. They comply with the applicable provisions of the German Food, Consumer Goods and Feed Code (LFGB) and Regulation (EG) No. 1935/2004, and can therefore be used without concern on wood surfaces that come into contact with food.

The cured material is harmless to humans, animals and plants, and complies with DIN EN 71-3 (safety of toys) and DIN 53160 (fastness to saliva and perspiration).

Care & Cleaning

Oiled wooden furniture & worktop are undoubtedly not just for looking at. They want to be used and deserve some attention now and then. It is important to care and foster the surface properly. Here are some tips:

MAINTENANCE CLEANING

Regular dusting should be the main method of cleaning. For light soiling, it is usually sufficient to wipe the surface with a damp cotton cloth and then wipe dry.

Stubborn dirt can be removed gently with our "OLI-NATURA Wood Soap" - diluted in water or pure, depending on the degree of soiling. Never use all-purpose or conventional household cleaners, as these can leach out the wood and weaken the protection.

LINGERING MOISTURE & HEAT

Avoid prolonged residing wetness as well as a build-up of moisture. Liquids such as water, wine, coffee or fruit juices should be wiped away as quickly as possible. Hot cooking pots or similar items also do not belong on the wooden tabletop without a coaster.

RETREATMENT & CARE

To maintain the protective effect, the Colour-Oil should be re-oiled occasionally. To do this, simply apply a little "OLI-NATURA Colour-Oil" to a white pad or clean cloth and massage the surface with gentle pressure and circular movements.

How often you need to re-oil depends mainly on the wear of the surface. A wooden cabinet certainly needs less attention here than a countertop.

Prime indicators for a surface needing care are: water repellence wearing off, the depth of colour fading, or the surface feeling dry and brittle. In those cases, a retreatment should be done soon.

EASY TO REPAIR

When using the Colour-Oil, surfaces can be partially refinished. Superficial scratches are simply sanded out without having to completely re-impregnate the entire surface. After the repair, these areas are then simply re-oiled with the "OLI-NATURA Colour-Oil".
